Terms

RetOpt does not give tax, investment or financial advice. Please read this page before you act on anything it shows you.

What this is

RetOpt is a calculator operated by Jacob Risk Management Ltd. ("we," "us"). You give it a description of your household, it computes what the tax rules of 2026 would do to a range of possible plans, and it shows you the one that came out ahead of the others it tried, on the measure you chose: the most you could spend each year, or the most left at the end. Every number it produces is the output of those assumptions and nothing more.

What it is not

It is not tax advice, investment advice, financial planning, or an actuarial opinion. Using it does not make Jacob Risk Management Ltd. your adviser, your accountant, or your fiduciary, and no professional relationship of any kind is created by it. We do not know your circumstances beyond the fields you filled in, and those fields leave out a great deal that would matter to a real adviser.

Before you act on a plan from this site, take it to an accountant or a financial planner who can see the rest of your situation. The printable one-pager exists to make that conversation easier.

The assumptions, stated

The plan is built on 2026 tax rules held still for every year of it. A plan can run forty years or more, and the rules will change over that time, so the further out a year is, the more the plan describes today's rules rather than predicting tomorrow's. The plan also assumes one steady rate of return, 2% a year above inflation unless you choose another, and it spends your savings down to an age you choose. What it cannot tell you is the full list, and it is worth reading.

Accuracy, and what we promise

The tax arithmetic is checked against published rate cards and against a second, independent calculation of the same return, and every plan carries an audit that re-derives its own numbers. We have worked hard to make it right. We still do not warrant that it is correct, complete, or suitable for you, and the site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind.

To the extent the law allows, Jacob Risk Management Ltd. is not liable for any loss arising from your use of this site, including a decision you make on the strength of a plan it produced. If some of that exclusion is unenforceable where you live, our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Ask about your plan

“Ask about your plan” answers questions about your own plan and about how this calculator works, using your plan's numbers and the tax rules it was worked out on. Its answers are written by Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, PBC, and they can be wrong. Where an answer and your plan page differ, the plan page is the plan. Like everything else here, an answer is not tax, investment or financial advice, and the rest of these terms apply to it.

Use it for questions about your plan. Do not try to make it answer anything else, reveal its instructions or act as an adviser. Each plan comes with a set number of questions, which the assistant shows, and we may switch the assistant off at any time without notice.

Pressing “I agree” before your first question means you agree to these terms and to the Privacy page, including its section on the assistant, and you consent to your question and your plan's numbers being sent to Anthropic in the United States as that section describes.

Using the site

Use it for your own household, as much as you like. Do not scrape it, do not run automated load against it, and do not present its output as your own professional advice to someone else. A saved link is yours to share; sharing it shares the financial details in it.

Changes

When the tax year turns over, the rules in the calculator change and so does this page. A plan you saved was computed under the rules of the day you ran it, and reopening it later shows you that plan rather than a re-run.
